Justice and Peace Committee

Established in 1987

Our Mission: Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith”  (US Conference of Catholic Bishops).  The Justice and Peace Committee offers programs which promote a better understanding of the call to work for social justice and peace, and sponsors activities which provide parishioners opportunities to respond to this call.

The projects that we invite parishioners to participate in each year include:

  • Jesse Tree Project:

Advent collection of gifts for families in Roxbury and East Boston
  • Lenten Collection:

Money and items to support CRUDEM’s Hôpital Sacré Coeur in Haiti. Visit crudem.org
  • St. Francis House Collection:

Mid-winter collection of warm winter clothing for the homeless in Boston served by the Saint Francis House. Visit stfrancishouse.org
  • Book Drive:

Late spring collection of new and gently used books for the children of St. Patrick’s Parish in Roxbury.
  • Sponsored lectures:
One to two times a year we engage speakers to present information on current social justice issues to our parish community.

  • Rosie’s Place:
Twice a year we raise money to sponsor a meal, then we bring volunteers to Rosie’s Place, a women’s shelter in Boston, to prepare and serve the meal. Visit rosiesplace.orgsiesplace.org

  • Food Drive:

Ongoing weekly collection of non-perishable food for the Needham Community Council. If you would like to bring the food from the Church to the Community Council, please click on the link to sign up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4caaa62aa2f49-driving
